Culinary Arts
Students gain valuable knowledge about the food service industry from seasoned experts. Students will understand how restaurants function in both food execution and service.
Young culinarians have the opportunity to gain real world experience in food production, customer service, and financial literacy.
Skills Needed & Taught:
- Communication: Restaurants are a team driven environment where effective writing and verbal communication are paramount.
- Critical Thinking: Students examine real world scenarios to make thoughtful and intelligent decisions that will effect product quality, guest satisfaction, and profitability.
- Public Speaking: Students gain confidence in public speaking through class presentations.
- Personal Confidence: Students build their self-esteem through exploration and execution of various cuisines and styles of service. They have opportunities to showcase their skill in competitions sponsored by Career Technology Student Organizations.
Industry Based Certifications:
- ServSafe Food Handler: 2-year certification issued by the National Restaurant Association. Required for all food service employees
- ServSafe Food Protection Managers: 5-year certification issued by the National Restaurant Association. All food service locations are required to have 1 employee with this certification on staff.
